My main studio is in Gainesville, Georgia where I have been a resident for almost 4 decades as a university professor. Working with rustic log tables began as a hobby in the early 1990's. The North Georgia area is rich in timber resources and both hard and softwoods are available in abundance. The natural beauty of the Lake Lanier area and the North Georgia Mountains continue to inspire my whimsical woodwork.
Working with wood is a meditative activity that I have spent countless hours on! Having the natural geometry of wood and painted tops creates an atmosphere of an 'indoor forest in perpetual full bloom'. Not only are they eye candy, they are at an arms length to hold your favorite beverage, your choicest vittles and even your favorite book! WoodLotus tables create an natural and artistic milieu in your living space; they provide great companionship!
I started painting the log table tops a couple of decades ago; flowers and the sun are recurring themes in my WoodLotus table paintings. The bright and exuberant colors on these rustic log tabletops surround me in my home, and comfort me. I have a workshop in my garage and one in my basement to work on my whimsical woodery. It takes a log time to dry the wood logs and slices properly before using them to make WoodLotus tables. Painting the tables and giving an epoxy finish is a slow and artisanal process.
